Frankie and Helen’s Engagement

We met in high school originally, and my parents lived down the street from his mom. Frankie and I even rode the same bus, had a few classes together…

But we never spoke. We ran into each other downtown where I proceeded to make an absolute fool of myself to get my attention: “Oh my god! FRANKIE! HIIIIII! Do you remember me??” Apparently, that was a silly question because he says he’s surprised I even knew who he was. We exchanged info and a few WEEKS later, we finally met up at Brass Tap in Fort Lauderdale and it’s been love ever since.

I think you may have picked up on this, but our entire life revolves around laughter. There is never a dull moment in our home and we love spending time together. The lock down forced us to spend every day together, and it was honestly a dream come true. We enjoyed our time together and miss it now that I’m back in my office. We just can’t get enough of each other! We love traveling together, he took me to Europe for my first time a few years back and I’ve been hooked ever since. We have a nearly 2 year old puppy & he is the love of our life. We challenge each other to be better and we help each other realize those goals. Everyone who knows us will tell you we are actually best friends and we do everything we can to make people feel welcome, rather than a 3rd wheel. Our main goal in life is to ensure the other’s happiness!

He has never, ever pulled off a surprise… Mainly because he gets so excited about them and he tells me! We go to New York every year between Christmas and NYE. I had absolutely no idea it was coming, so I was completely oblivious. When we arrived at the hotel, he told me he wanted to go to Rockefeller first (where he was planning to propose), but this made no sense, as we had to walk right past Bryant Park (my fave) in order to get to the Rock. So what did we do? We took a 2 hour detour to Bryant Park so I could get my favorite sandwich, hot chocolate, and so I could watch ice skaters fall down… Meanwhile, he’s sweating bullets in 45 degree weather because he’s got this ring in his pocket burning a hole in his jacket! When we got to Rockefeller, he asked a stranger to take our picture (not unusual) but Frankie told him to take a video because he was going to ask a very important question. Quick backstory: EVERYONE has wanted us to get married for forever, so any time anyone would ask “When are you two getting married??” Frankie would respond, “Well, I’m actually glad you’re here…” and pretend to pull out a ring… Every. Time.

Flash forward: he starts to pull the REAL ring out of his jacket, and I’m thinking “Aw, come on, this nice guy is taking our picture,” so I smack his hands and tell him to stop… Then I see a box I’ve never seen before and he gets down on one knee! In the video, you can hear me say “What are you doing?” Because of me smacking his hand so many times, the ring had fallen out of the holder, so when he opens it, NO RING! He fishes around for the ring, holds it up to me, I realize that this is REALLY happening, and he asks me to spend the rest of my life with him. So of course, I say, “Are you serious??” (Lol) Once I realize that he is serious, I say yes & happily accept! Cue the panic attack, but it was for good reason: HE SURPRISED ME!
